Sizing, Fitting and Level of Arch Support

Please see the below information about how to get the correct Size, the correct Fit and the correct Level of Arch Support when you are purchasing your new pair of Archies Flip Flops.

Size Guide

Archies Flip-Flops are unisex flip flops; however, the sizing follows US Men's sizing.

We do not have a separate size system for women (it is very easy for ladies to convert their size to their Archies Flip Flop size using the size conversion chart).

Archies Flip-Flops sizing runs very true to your normal US running shoe size, so we suggest to select that for your size.

If you are often different sizes in different brands, or if you have any doubts as to which size to choose and or you simply want to confirm your size selection, then we suggest to measure your foot length using the instructions below and check the recommended corresponding size via the Archies Flip-Flops size conversion chart. Please click here for instructions on the best method to accurately measure your foot length

If after all of this, you still have any questions or doubts as to which size to choose, then please contact us at customer service and we will provide you with our best recommendation as to which size to choose.

In the unlikely event that you do happen to get the size wrong (we have very low returns); no stress, we have free returns for incorrect size choice so we can get it right the second time not cost for you (even for international orders).

Women’s Size Conversion Chart

For women, your Archies Flip-Flops size will always be one size less than your normal ladies running shoe size (as the sizes are in men’s sizes).  For example; if you are normally a Women’s Size 9 US in running shoes, then the corresponding size in Archies Flip-Flops would be an Archies Flip-Flops Size 8 (US).

Using your normal ladies running shoe size, simply use the size conversion chart to help you choose your Archies Flip-Flops size.

If you do not own a pair of running shoes, just select your most common ladies shoe size.

Fitting

Fitting in terms of Width

In terms of width, Archies Flip Flops are designed to be a reasonably narrow fitting flip flop. The outside edge of the foot hangs over the edge to some extent in most people, so please do not be concerned if this is the case for you, as this is the normal fit for Archies Flip Flops (as per the below image). It is important to note, that while the foot overhangs to some extent in most people, it is quite rare that we cannot fit Archies Flip Flops to someone’s feet, no matter how wide or narrow they are. Even in the case that you have a bunion that overhangs, this is ok, the most important thing is that the flip flop is comfortable and the orthotic sits in the correct position on the foot.

Please see the image below of completely acceptable overhang.

 Fitting in terms of length

In terms of length, the flip flops were designed with a reasonably ‘snug / tight’ fit in mind. If you go too big in terms of length, the orthotic does not sit in the correct position on the foot. It is important to note, that it is not a concern if some of the back edge of the heel hangs over the edge of the flip flop (as per the below image).

Of course, if your heel is completely over the edge of the heel cup and squashing down on the rim of the flip flop, then that is different, however, some heel overhang is ok. Again, the most important thing is that the flip flop is comfortable and the orthotic sits in the correct position on the foot.

 Archies have a tighter strap

Archies Arch Support Flip Flops have been designed with a tighter strap than normal flip flops. This is because in flip flops with a loose strap, the toes claw down in an attempt to keep the flip flops on the feet. Normally when you walk your toes are supposed to point / bend upwards. When the toes point / bend upwards, this activates the arch of the foot which helps provide protection and support to the vital structures of the feet. When the toes claw down such as when trying to keep the flip flops on the feet, the arch does not activate correctly which means that you do not get the protective support from the arch of the foot. This can leave the foot tired and achy, vulnerable to stress and potential injury. The tighter strap found in Archies Arch Support Flip Flops may help to reduce toe clawing which may enable you to walk more naturally.

It is important to know, that if the strap feels a little too tight at first, do not worry, the strap is very elastic, within a few days of wear, the strap will gradually stretch and mould to the shape of your feet.

However, if the strap feels too tight it is very easy to stretch the strap and the toe pole until it reaches your desired level of tightness.

How do I stretch the strap?

Before stretching the strap, always inspect on the underside of the strap for a joining line. Occasionally, a joining line will be present and is indicated by a faint line through the underside of the strap. While the strap is very strong, if you stretch the strap directly on a joining line, it can break, so never stretch the strap directly on a joining line! See the below photo of a joining line:

Archies Flip Flops - strap joining line

To stretch the strap, simply hold the strap between your fingers and in small little increments stretch each section of the strap where it feels too tight. You can do the same for the toe pole if this feels too tight. Continue to do this, trying the flip flop on and off, stretching the strap and toe pole until it has reached your desired level of tightness. It is important to note, that while the straps are very elastic, once stretched, the strap will not return to its original tightness, so please be careful not to overdo the stretching.

We can customise the strap of the flip flop that you order online to better suit the shape of your feet.

While we do not make flip flops that are of a different width, if you can tell us whether or not you have a wide, narrow or regular width foot, we can choose a flip flop with a strap that will be more suited to the shape of your foot and we can also then manipulate the strap in our warehouse to better suit your foot shape. If you do not know if you have a wide, narrow or regular width foot, please do not stress, we will just send you a flip flop with a strap that is of normal tightness.

Please do not send us a measurement of your foot width as this will not help us, a simple description of your foot width is all that we need. Please note, most people with a narrow or a wide foot know this, so if you are unsure it is likely that you have a normal foot width.

Level of Arch Support

At Archies Footwear we know that it is impossible to adequately cater for all feet with one arch profile, as a result, Archies Arch Support Flip Flops come in a Standard Arch Support model and a High Arch Support model. Having the two arch profiles allows us better cater for you arch type and support needs.

Which one is better, the high arch or the standard arch?

One arch profile is not necessarily better than the other. Both arch profiles have substantial orthotic / arch support and a similar amount of support to that found in off the shelf orthotics. It’s just that the high arch support model has increased support in comparison to the standard arch support mode and one arch profile may be more suited to your foot type, personal preference and what you are used to. E.g, If you are used to wearing orthotics or other support footwear.

So, how do I know which model is the right one for me?

This is very easy and is not a big decision!

If you are used to wearing orthotics or other supportive shoes and sandals, then it is likely that you will prefer the feel of our of high arch support model.

If you are not used to wearing orthotics or supportive footwear, then our standard arch model will likely be a better choice for you.

If you have low arches / flat feet, then you will likely prefer our standard arch model, as the high arch support will likely feel that it has too much support (unless of course you are used to wearing orthotics with a lot of support).

If you have high or normal type arches, then you will be fine in either our high arch support model or our standard arch support model, it would just come down to personal preference of what you are used to and your support needs.

Click the following text to find out how to know if your last pair of flip flops was a high arch or a standard arch model.

Not sure which one to go with?

If unsure of which one to go with then definitely go with the standard arch support model. The standard arch support model contains legitimate orthotic / arch support, is super comfortable and almost every person absolutely loves and raves about this flip flop! You can then consider going for the high support model at another stage once your feet are used to having the support.

Regardless of which model you choose, do not stress, it’s not a big decision! Both models have substantial orthotic / arch support and it is highly likely you will be happy with whatever you choose! In the unlikely event that you choose a model and are not 100% satisfied, simply post the flip flops back to us in new / unworn condition and we will happily send you a replacement pair in the other model free of charge. To prevent misuse of this offer, return postage of the original pair is at the expense of the customer, but we will happily pay for the postage on the replacement pair.

Getting used to the feel of Archies

Most people put on Archies Flip Flops and they find them to be instantly and unbelievably comfortable! However, for some people, getting used to the support can take some time and in some occasions you may even experience some soreness. So in the unlikely event your Archies Flip Flops are not instantly comfortable, do not worry, after several days of wear, the flip flops will gradually mould to the shape of your foot and will become much more comfortable.

If you feel you have given the flip flops a good try and they are not starting to get much more comfortable (they should be very comfortable!), then it is likely that the arch profile that you have chosen is not the right one for your foot. In this case the best thing would be to try the other arch profile and in most cases the result is an immediate improvement in comfort level! However, if any soreness or pain continues to persist, then please contact your health care professional.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the fit and feel or other, please feel free to contact our customer service team at customerservice@archiesfootwear.com
